Context: Building a resilient platform for a global reinsurance broker start‑up
A fast growing reinsurance broker start up needed to implement a broking platform and IBA capability that could operate confidently across the EU, UK, US and Bermuda. The goal was to create a cloud based, API enabled online trading platform with the core features required for an authorised brokerage business working in the global market.
The business needed a software solution that delivered accuracy in financial transactions, better portfolio management, robust account management controls and the ability to manage users’ data and historical data. All of this had to be mobilised, designed and vendor selected within six months.
What We Did: Accelerated broking platform implementation
Camelot moved quickly to establish clarity, realistic expectations and momentum. We held a direct discussion with the Executive Stakeholder about what could be delivered without compromising design principles or regulatory requirements.
We rewrote the delivery plan to shift work earlier in the cycle, allowing faster decisions and earlier design validation. Working alongside the business and using our specialist market knowledge, we produced full requirements across broking, accounting, financial solutions, user interface expectations and the wider tech stack. This also enabled two additional workstreams to be added naturally: Sanctions and Onboarding.
We then led a structured RFI and RFP process to test the market. For the final two vendors, we recommended a two day workshop with each provider. This allowed the client to evaluate the business model fit, functional testing capability, user engagement, portfolio functionality and how well users track data through the platform. The decision was grounded in practical value rather than cost alone.
Results: A strategic, cost‑effective decision and rapid implementation
The selected vendor met all functional and regulatory requirements and came in significantly below the original budget.
Following selection, we supported a collaborative implementation approach.
The online trading platform was operational within three months of contract signature and included:
● Full broking workflow support
● IBA and financial transactions capability
● Portfolio management and account management
● Integration of historical data
● Secure handling of users’ data
● A user interface suitable for financial intermediaries and a growing global user base
This platform implementation gave the start up a scalable, compliant and future ready software solution that supports its ambitions in the global market.
