Change & Transformation

The Need for Transformation

We understand your transformation challenges

Organisations often need to transform to retain competitive advantage, to grow and increase revenue, move into new markets, improve productivity, reduce costs, operate more efficiently and manage risk more effectively.

This may be achieved by using technology as an enabler for change and restructuring the organisation and how it operates.

Any transformation programme should enable challenges and opportunities to be cost-effectively and confidently addressed, but it’s often difficult to know where and how do you start?

Some of these may be familiar:

  • Unclear business strategy

  • Lack of clarity and accountability regarding transformation outcomes

  • Limited visibility at senior levels of the real issues

  • A dysfunctional, siloed operation with broken processes, no one knows how things really work

  • Ineffective governance and poor communication within and between teams

  • Legacy IT and infrastructure, high cost of ownership and change

  • Lack of business agility with limited experience of complex change

  • Multiple data silos that don’t talk to each other

  • Poor customer experience and high level of complaints

  • Disengaged employees and talent acquisition and retention issues

  • Third parties performing poorly, selling you products and services you don’t really need

Transformation and Change Services

According to McKinsey, and many other consultancies, 70% of transformation programmes fail.

Although this 70% figure is meaningless without context and has been debunked many times over the years, the rate at which transformation programmes don’t achieve the outcomes and benefits expected remains far too high.

A 2024 survey (conducted by Emergn and published in The Times), saw 84% of respondents who worked on transformation projects with McKinsey, BCG and Bain felt they were ‘no help at all’. This is in stark contrast to Camelot Consulting where we pride ourselves on adding real value. Our people have been there and done it, and bring real-world experience, best practice and expertise (and scars) gained over many years.

Why Camelot Consulting?

Our extensive experience gained in the corporate world, working client-side for organisations as well as delivery-side for vendors and consultancies, gives us a unique insight into the challenges faced, as well as the potential exploitative nature of the client–consultancy relationship. That’s why we are committed to acting in the best interests of our clients at every stage, it’s at the heart of everything we do.

Transformation Advisory

What you should know, not what you’d like to hear.

Transformational change is disruptive and complex. Acting as a critical friend and trusted advisor, we’ll help you better understand what you’re getting into and develop an effective programme strategy and approach. We’ll provide the expertise so you can make informed decisions, to ensure the right things get done, at the right time, by the right people, in the right way.

Pre-programme: We’ll help you look at things in the right way to ensure they are suitably ‘joined up’ and a solid foundation for transformation exists.

In-flight: We’ll keep you (as the client) and all third parties honest by providing appropriate oversight, challenge and support to ensure the programme stays on track and delivers the outcomes wanted.

Programmes may involve:

  • Re-platforming: Implementing a new PAS, UW Workbench or claims system to replace legacy technology and drive modernisation

  • Introducing new ways of working: Automation and AI to improve productivity and efficiency, lower expense and loss ratios and enhance customer experience

  • Restructuring or integrating post M&A to drive value creation

  • Implementing an adaptable operating model for sustainable growth following Private Equity investment

Re-Platforming (PAS, UW, Broking, Claims)

Re-platforming is a major investment so you need to get it right – but many don’t!

Are you thinking of re-platforming or maybe you’ve decided it’s the way forward to address the challenges below?

  • Technology constraining the introduction of new ways of working

  • Process too manual, low productivity, inefficient operations, limited viable options for automation, use of AI etc

  • Legacy platforms that don’t talk to each other, high cost of support and change

  • Lack of business agility, inability to scale and develop new products

  • Multiple data silos, unable to leverage data to gain valuable business insights

  • Increasing digital capability, enhancing the customer experience

But how do you best go about selecting the right product, vendor and systems implementor (SI), and then shape and execute your transformation programme to deliver the expected benefits?

Vendors and SIs come in all shapes and sizes – some will make claims that don’t stack up, but how do you find out before it’s too late e.g. before signing that 5-year deal or services contract?

Camelot Consulting has the real-world experience and expertise to help you identify what’s really needed to achieve your strategic objectives, and ensure that they’re aligned to your ambition, appetite for change and budget. With our deep industry insights and market intelligence and knowledge, we can help you make the right decisions regarding solution selection, programme strategy and approach, and execution – all leading to the delivery of successful and sustainable outcomes.

Transformation Programme Assurance

Is your transformation programme operating and performing as expected?

Your transformation programme has been running for some time, there are multiple external parties involved and there appears to be lots of activity underway across multiple workstreams... but is really going that well or is there:

  • Discomfort among the executive team, are they unsighted re-progress or feel out-of-the-loop?

  • A lack of cohesion between the parties involved?

  • A growing number of non-green items on status reports?

  • A constant stream of new requirements impacting scope that weren’t initially recognised?

  • An increasing number of dependencies being identified that inhibit progress?

  • Decreasing confidence in the roadmap and plan?

Do you want to assess the programme’s health, to provide confidence that you’re in a good place to proceed to the next phase where you have to commit to significant spend e.g. signing contracts with vendors and system integrators?

Camelot Consulting has the transformation programme expertise to assess your programme’s operation and governance, to determine its health and ongoing viability, as well as providing recommendations for improvement to ensure you’re set up for success.
